GUS Technology today announced the launch of a new range of fast-charging, high power battery products produced at its manufacturing facilities in Zhongli, Taiwan. The launch, announced at Battery Japan, builds on GUS’ product portfolio which targets high-power industrial and infrastructure applications.
The new product line boasts cell performances which enable 80% charging in 5 minutes, 5C fast charging at –30 °C, exceptional cycle life, and enhanced safety for demanding applications. High-power cycling at 5C/5C and 25 °C (20-80% SoC) shows only 2% capacity loss after 10,000 cycles, supporting an estimated cycle life beyond 50,000 cycles. These characteristics enable rapid turnaround for industrial equipment and energy systems with the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). This makes it well suited for applications such as mass transportation, construction, mining vehicles, robotics, and grid interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
These new performances are enabled by XNO®, a metal oxide anode technology developed by Echion Technologies (UK).
Compared with lithium titanate (LTO), a chemistry commonly used in high-power battery applications, XNO® offers more than 50% higher energy density while maintaining fast-charging capability, long cycle life, and safety characteristics. This combination enables longer operating runtimes without compromising the durability and operational safety expected from high-power battery systems.
GUS Technology is now commercialising several battery cell, modules and pack formats based on XNO®. These include 43Ah and 60Ah cells, VDA355 modules designed for industrial system integration and a compact 5Ah cell capable of delivering up to 100A of power (20C), enabling high peak power output in smaller form factors.
GUS Technology’s XNO® products have already begun customer trials in on-highway applications, with further opportunities in other sectors. GUS Technology’s new XNO® products are now available for general customer sampling, and detailed specifications will be unveiled at Battery Japan.
Dr. Chang, Chairman of GUS Technology, commented: “Our new XNO® product range represents an exciting advancement in high-power battery technology. We are proud to launch these products to serve existing and new customers in the heavy-duty commercial and industrial battery markets. Successful scale-up of XNO® products through manufacturing at our Zhongli facility is also a great achievement for our team and a vindication of our capabilities.”
“XNO® technology was developed to deliver fast-charging and high-power performance without the energy density and lifetime limitations seen in traditional high-power lithium-ion chemistries,” said Dr Jean de La Verpilliere, CEO at Echion Technologies. “We have been impressed with GUS’ capabilities and are excited to see XNO® incorporated into their product offering.”
GUS Technology’s established battery manufacturing infrastructure at Zhongli, Taiwan has an annual production capacity of approximately 1 GWh and supplies battery systems to customers across North America, Europe, and Asia for applications including industrial equipment, transportation systems, and data centre power infrastructure.
