Sepion Technologies Appoints Dr. Brian C. Sisk as CTO to Drive Product Development and Partnerships

Sepion Technologies, a leading battery technology company devoted to commercializing lithium-metal batteries for long-range, fast-charging, and low-cost electric vehicles (EVs), announced today the appointment of Brian C. Sisk, Ph.D. as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

In this role, Sisk will oversee Sepion's battery materials development, cell engineering, and strategic partnerships. With experience working across the supply chain with cell manufacturers and automotive companies, Sisk is expected to accelerate the commercialization of Sepion's innovative battery solutions for the fast-growing EV and e-mobility marketplace.

Before joining Sepion, Sisk was Senior Director of Energy Storage Systems for Rivian where he developed battery systems for the company's award-winning R1T truck, R1S SUV, and Electric Delivery Van for Amazon and other customers. He oversaw formation of the company's world-class battery labs in California and Illinois as part of these initiatives.

Prior to Rivian, Sisk served as Vice President of Cell Product Development at A123 Systems where he contributed to the company's market leadership for low-voltage 48V and 12V automotive batteries. He also led A123's transition from a vendor of legacy technology to a leading Tier-1 supplier of world-class EV and 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) batteries. Before A123, he was Director of Design Analysis for Johnson Controls Power Solutions, spun out as Clarios. There he created a team dedicated to pioneering battery management algorithms and simulation capabilities, and supported strategic analysis of new markets for automotive batteries.

"Sepion brings a unique approach to replacing graphite anodes with lithium metal by utilizing cutting-edge nanoscience at the crossroads of polymer chemistry and liquid electrolytes. This combination allows Sepion's customers to safely unlock the long-promised performance and economic benefits of lithium metal anodes while using lithium-ion manufacturing infrastructure," said Peter Frischmann, CEO and Co-Founder of Sepion Technologies. "We welcome Dr. Sisk to our diverse and talented team. His vast experience and leadership will enable Sepion to accelerate cell component validation and fine-tune our value propositions to serve the dynamic needs of the EV industry. Additionally, his deep understanding of the entire battery value chain will be invaluable in building relationships with aligned partners as we continue to expand our customer base."

"I am excited to join Sepion Technologies and work with the accomplished team here to drive innovation and bring new products to market," noted Sisk. "I am confident that my experience and knowledge across the development spectrum from cell components and cell engineering to EV pack design and evaluation will enable us to accelerate our product development and build strong partnerships with key players in the market."

Sepion is committed to delivering battery technology designed for seamless adoption by the automotive industry. Its innovative material solutions will help customers achieve their sustainability goals while reducing costs and increasing reliability. With the addition of Sisk, the company is well-positioned to accelerate its growth and achieve its vision of becoming a leading materials supplier in the battery industry.

Sisk received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and earned his MS and BS in Chemistry from Western Kentucky University. He is the lead inventor of eight patents on new modeling, battery management and control algorithms and has contributed to 20 total granted battery-related patents.
