A Commitment to Recycling: EnerSys Receives 2016 Leaders in Sustainability Award

July 21, 2017 | News Brief | EnerSys has earned the 2016 Leaders in Sustainability Award from Call2Recycle, Inc., a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The award recognizes partners within different sectors in the US and Canada for their commitment to recycling and environmental preservation. This year, the North American awards program honored EnerSys collection sites for their loyalty and dedication to keeping batteries out of landfills.

Through the collaboration and strong support of partners like EnerSys, the Call2Recycle program continues to divert record numbers of batteries from landfills each year, said Carl Smith, chief executive officer and president, Call2Recycle, Inc. EnerSys efforts to collect batteries and promote recycling is helping make a difference in our environment.

The 2016 Leaders in Sustainability Award comes on the heels of the EnerSys Warrensburg, Missouri, facility winning a gold award from the Missouri Water Environment Association (MWEA). The award further demonstrates the EnerSys commitment to the environment.

EnerSys is an industry leader in battery recycling throughout North America, operating nearly 70 recycling centers in the US and eight in Canada. Along with its own batteries, EnerSys recycles lead acid batteries of all sizes, from all manufacturers. EnerSys ensures that recycled batteries meet all state and federal regulations, and provides a complete range of recycling support services. According to Battery Council International, 98 percent of materials in lead acid batteries can be recycled.
