What You Must Do Before Shipping Batteries to India
Jody Leber, Global Battery Manager, SGS

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently gave smartphone manufacturers who want to ship batteries to India a little more breathing room. But just a little. In June 2016, the BIS released new norms that for the first time requires handset vendors to test smartphone batteries separately. In September, the BIS pushed the original deadline out to August 2017. Despite the extension, the timeframe remains tight. Let’s examine what manufacturers of smartphones, and any other battery-powered devices, can do today to avoid creating costly go-to-market delays. <read more>

Webcast: Thermal Stress in Electronics
Mechanical stress is a key failure mechanism to consider when designing electronics systems. Excessive mechanical stress can cause cracking, rupture, fatigue, delamination, or even excessive deflection (such as in optical assemblies). Since most electronics systems are not also designed to be a part of the main mechanical load bearing structure, thermal expansion is a primary source of mechanical stress. (Details)

CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) mismatch typically comes to mind when discussing thermal stress, but high-temperature gradients also can cause differential expansion and excessive stress even when the materials are carefully chosen for the best CTE match.

This webcast explores the capabilities of leading simulation software to perform thermal stress analysis. The foundation for any thermal stress analysis is an accurate computation of the conjugate heat transfer situation - a long-time strength of simulation - then the included finite element stress solver can natively compute stresses due to thermal and mechanical loads.

Expanding Technology for Advanced Battery Applications & Fuel Cells

dexmetDexmet has taken the “Expanding Technology” to the next generation of advancements, the micro-mesh material manufactured by Dexmet is infinitely variable, and the proprietary equipment developed anddesigned at Dexmet produces expanded material with smaller holes than anyone else and produces material that is thinner than anyone else in our marketplace. The expansion process produces a very consistent product as far as open area, hole size and conductivity.

Dexmet expanded materials are perfect for Advanced Batteries Applications and Fuel Cells, especially where you are using multi stacks of materials and you need consistent conductivity from stack to stack also the expansion process is more cost effective unlike perforated material.

The expansion process allows you to yield higher amounts of material than what you put in, this is especially important when your application requires expensive materials like platinum, niobium, zirconium and titanium.

Battery Power 2017Ensuring Battery Safety & Compliance
Nothing can shake consumer faith faster than a recalled product. Products sitting in a warehouse rather than store shelves because of compliance or shipping issues can quickly erase a profit margin. With the proliferation of battery-powered products - from cell phones to medical devices - the need to stay current with the latest standards, safety and legal issues is paramount. Join us in Dallas, May 17-18, for Battery Power 2017. If your products depend on batteries, or if your operations are battery-intensive, this is a must-attend event.
