Duration: 60 minutes

In today's highly competitive HEV/EV market, power train engineers, whose work includes the integration of high voltage batteries, power electronics, controls and electrical machines, are constantly being challenged to: increase system efficiency, stability and reliability, improve thermal and structural performance, as well as minimize materials in order to reduce cost and weight. Historically, these objectives have been addressed by engineering groups working independently, and often the final product failed in the integration and testing stage because key understanding of the interoperability between subsystems or within a subsystem is lacking.

To overcome this obstacle, ANSYS along with its recent acquisition of Ansoft has developed an integrated simulation environment, where engineers can incorporate the design of the electrical machine with the power electronics, control systems and battery to achieve an optimal performing drive system. This approach allows engineers to utilize simulation techniques to create virtual models of critical components of the drive including the battery, electrical machine, IGBT's, controls, and characterization (L, R, C) of the cables and bus bars connecting these components. Integrating high fidelity electromagnetic and electromechanical physics based models into a system level simulation, can assist the engineers in optimizing drive performance as well as controlling harmonics and mitigating conducted and radiated EMI/EMC. These webinars will review the methodology employed to achieve this integration.
